Club History

A rich history:
The Granite Curling Club was founded in 1920, making it one of the oldest curling Clubs in the city of Edmonton as well as the province of Alberta. On April 24, 1920 a Certificate of Incorporation was duly issued under the seal of the Registrar of Companies for the Granite. The first issue of shares was offered almost a year later on April 4, 1921. The Granite Curling Club officially opened for curling on Monday, December 20, 1920. At the end of the fiscal year, the Granite Curling Club recorded a remarkable net income of $2,638. The Granite Curling Club proved to have a promising outlook in the following years with its true sportsmanship, friendly competitiveness and winning honors. The Granite established itself as a first class social and recreational facility. Incorporation of the Granite Curling Club as a non-profit organization occurred in 1953 under the Societies Act.

Current:
The Granite Curling Club has grown into a flourishing and respected leader in the curling community. There is a board of directors for the holding company consisting of a President, Vice President, Treasurer and 4 Directors. The executives give their time to further the cause of curling for Granite members as well the average curler. In addition to the board for the Granite Curling Company, the board of directors for the day-to-day operating group for the club usually consists of 12 volunteer members. Our operating staff includes the General Manager(s), the head ice technician and crew, as well as our regular lounge staff.

Community involvement is also an important objective at the Granite, which has a volunteer database of over 500 people from Edmonton and surrounding areas.
